Conservatives have expressed their anger that the Lab/Lib run Council has rejected plans for the regeneration of Shirley, yet again. The Parkgate development could have brought the creation of up to 800 new jobs into Shirley, with park and road improvements, public toilets, shopmobility and new homes. Recent news that Marks & Spencer may relocate to the Sears Retail Park from Shirley High Street will come as another blow to shoppers and could leave another empty shop on the Stratford Road. We believe Shirley is in desperate need of regeneration and opponents don't seem to have a viable alternative.
