The Secretary of State for Justice and Julian Knight had a successful visit to Welcome on Friday. He met with Joanne Mackinnon, CEO, and other members of the team.
Welcome is a registered charity and the access point for drug and alcohol treatment and support services in Solihull, who work to assist people towards recovery and rebuilding their lives.
They are a member of SIAS (Solihull Integrated Addiction Services) and work in partnership with The Bridge (part of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust), Drug Intervention Programme (DIP), Aquarius, Str8 UP and Changes UK CIC, to ensure that anyone living or working in the Borough of Solihull whose drug or alcohol use has become problematic has easy access to the treatment and support services they need.
They offer:
- Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services
- Training, work experience and volunteer placements for local people and ex service users who have become drug and alcohol free
- Support services for Families and Friends
- Drug and alcohol awareness training for professionals
Julian Knight said: “"It was a privilege to have accompanied Chris Grayling to see the fantastic and inspirational work being carried out by Welcome. They are giving hope and changing lives for the better and long may their work continue."
Chris Grayling said: “I very much enjoyed visiting Solihull again on the invitation of the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Solihull, Julian Knight. Both Julian and I saw first-hand the tremendous work Welcomes does in helping those who have fallen into a trap of alcohol and drug dependency. As Justice Secretary, I was particularly interested to hear about how the charity has helped former offenders turn their life around and beat addiction. The commitment of the Welcome team is second-to-none and a shining example of the importance of the third sector in rehabilitation.”
