Local MP Caroline Spelman has welcomed the confirmation of the re-opening of the Dunster Road Post Office branch, at a new location. The Post Office branch at 8 Craig Croft, Chelmsley Wood, was closed in February 2013. Following a consultation period, it has been confirmed that the Post Office are proceeding with their proposal to re-open the branch in Haj News, 59 Yorkminster Drive, approximately a quarter of a mile away from the original location of the branch. The new service will open at 13:00 on Friday 7 March 2014.
Caroline Spelman commented, “I am delighted at the decision to re-open the Dunster Road Post Office. I appreciate that the new branch will be further away for some customers, but I welcome the news that the branch will have significantly longer opening hours than it did previously.”
The reopening of the branch is part of the modernisation of the Post Office network. It will operate from a screened till at the shop counter in Haj News. Some concerns about security were raised during the consultation period, and the Post Office has confirmed that security of both agents and customers has been taken seriously into consideration in the decision-making process.
