Local MP Caroline Spelman is urging schools, businesses and community groups to
Participate in the UK’s first National Voter Registration Day taking place on 5th February 2014, with the aim of ensuring that as many people as possible register to vote on NVRD.
This annual day of coordinated action will see businesses, community groups and schools registering thousands of eligible young voters, showing them how and why they should take part in our democratic system. The day is intended to empower future generations of young people to realise that they have a say and a stake in decisions affecting their future.
Caroline says, “Voter turnout amongst young people is considerably lower than average and National Voter Registration Day provides an excellent opportunity to start changing this. I would urge schools and other groups in the Meriden constituency to participate and sign up at the following website: www.nvrd.co.uk/takepart, to get the latest resources and videos.”
The campaign organisers, Bite the Ballot have created a range of free resources for students and teachers to run registration events. More information can be obtained by emailing: [email protected].
