Solihull and Meriden Conservatives have closed their book of condolence to the late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Scores of Silhillians took time out from their busy lives to come to Solihull and Meriden Conservative Association on Manor Road Solihull to sign the book which was opened within hours of the death of the late prime minister.
People of all ages and backgrounds came into pay their respects. Julian Knight Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull commented; "I was in the office when one young man dropped in after school. He looked smart in his blazer and wrote a lovely comment recognizing how we live in a free country which can still hold its head high in the world because of the difficult decisions taken by Margaret Thatcher."
The Association was inundated with callers in the run up and aftermath of the funeral of Baroness Thatcher. More than fifty Silhillians came in to express their Condolences
Rob Hulland, Solihull Conservative Association chairman said: "Thank you to everyone of all political persuasions who recognised Margaret Thatcher's legacy. I was deeply touched by the respect and affection that Margaret Thatcher was held in by Silhillians."
Julian Knight added that unlike some other parts of the country political parties within Solihull had behaved with the utmost respect: "It is of credit to our opponents in Solihull that they either expressed their condolences or kept a dignified silence. I want to put on record our thanks to them for that."
