Shirley South Councillor Gary Allport and Peter Doyle are as frustrated as other residents that this remains an eyesore and wasted local resource, which could be redeveloped for the benefit of the whole community. The Powergen site remains under the control of Asda; however with the construction work on the regeneration of Shirley due to start in the spring, we can at last look forward to Shirley regaining its reputation as ‘The Golden Mile’ and hope that, once building begins, Asda will release this site for redevelopment.
Residents can be assured that this is a top priority for Solihull Council and some exciting ideas have already been put forward.
The sadness is that the regeneration of Shirley has been held back far too long due to delays and indecision of local Liberal Democrats.
