Solihull Borough Conservatives, including local Councillors and Members of Parliament have been campaigning for many years to preserve a physical base in Solihull. For successive years, Labour Police and Crime Commissioners have failed to deliver on this despite immense pressure to preserve the security of our residents across our borough.
Following the announcement on Monday by the PCC about the future of Solihull Police Station, Cllr Ian Courts, Leader of SMBC confirmed that the Council house site is one amongst a number of options being explored to be able to offer an enhanced town centre site for this essential service.
Cllr Courts commented: "There are a number of options that are being explored to deliver a base for the residents of the borough of Solihull and the Council House site is one of these. We think that the Council House site is potentially a great solution to offer a joined up approach and respective estates teams are working out the technical details of what is required so that we can present the best options for wider discussion and consultation. Indeed, co-locating on the Council House site may well be a sensible solution that aligns with the issues raised by hybrid working and public organisations working together. I must stress that no decision has yet been made and there have been many false dawns on this issue which is why we have been campaigning for many years on this."
