Solihull Hospital has been chosen by University Hospital Trust to become a Covid free hospital to make way for elective surgery to resume.
From June 1st, the current Minor Injuries Unit (MIU), Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and six medical inpatient wards will be temporarily moved from Solihull Hospital to make way for cancer operations and other operations that have been put on hold since the Coronavirus outbreak.
Emergencies and minor injuries will temporarily be moved to Heartlands or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Cllr Karen Grinsell said; “On this surface this seems a very sensible decision, however as Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health at SMBC, I am seeking a written assurance that this is only a temporary arrangement and the services transferred will return once immediate problems have passed.
Now is not the time for party politics, we need to pull together to ensure that residents get these important and often lifesaving operations during these challenging times.”
