We understand from Network Rail that the legal difficulties that had stopped the bridge have now been overcome. Network Rail are hoping that the work on the bridge can be completed in April. We contacted Network Rail who replied to our queries as follows:
“Network Rail will provide step-free access at Shirley station thanks to a new footbridge and lift. There were issues to overcome regarding the power supply to the new facilities but these have been resolved. Testing will now take place so the lifts can open for passenger use in spring 2015. Network Rail would like to thank passengers for their patience while this work is completed and apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
