It’s a real shame the boy racers have taken it upon themselves to return to Tesco’s car park for their night-time activities. Following large gatherings in 2017, Solihull council and police were successful in obtaining a County Court Injunction to outlaw this anti-social behaviour. This, together with measures taken by Tesco’s did stop this. The injunction was time limited and was renewed, but the courts demand strict adherence to procedure and with the lack of new evidence, as well as the installation of Average Speed Cameras, the injunction was not renewed.
This summer has seen a return to boy racers using the car park, culminating in a large gathering on the night of Saturday 2 September. The noise went well into the early hours and the car park surface showed an incredible amount of tyre marks, which can still be seen now. In addition, reports of similar activity were reported in Bickenhill that weekend.
Monkspath resident, Keith Green contacted Cllr Ken Hawkins and discussed how we can bring about the renewal of the County Court Injunction. Keith subsequently addressed the Council Cabinet Decision Session for Environment and Infrastructure, calling for the injunction to be renewed.
We can report we are extremely hopeful of the injunction being renewed, with both the council and police working towards this.
Keith Green said;
The noise that night was intolerable, with residents in Hillfield even hearing the tyres screeching. I know Ken has met with the managers at Tesco and Notcutts store to support them, but its pretty obvious we need the county court injunction to be reinstated to stop the boy racers again.
