Caroline Spelman MP visited Solihull hospital on Friday to learn about the new Urgent Care Centre and was shown the dementia ward due for closure in March.
The Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust was blamed for failing to provide an adequate service to these vulnerable patients thus requiring the hospital trust to provide Specialists which had not been budgeted for.
Caroline Spelman, MP for Meriden; said: "It cannot be right to close the dementia ward when the population of Solihull is ageing. Dementia afflicts 25% of all patients admitted over the age of 80.
“I saw with my own eyes how the care of mental health and geriatric nurses together is helping these vulnerable elderly patients recover from setbacks and get ready to return to independent living.
“No-one warned me about this as a local MP or explained what will replace this valuable service. So I will get to the bottom of what has gone wrong and try to restore it.”
