UPDATE: Petition Handed In !
Local resident and Campaigner, Jessica Thompson has handed the petition against the expansion of the De Vere Hotel to Councillor Samantha Gethen to present at Tuesday evenings Full Council meeting.
Jessica’s petition is calling for Solihull planning committee to REFUSE the plans resubmitted by the De Vere Hotel to create a 48 Bedroom extension to the Dog Kennel Lane site.
Jessica commented;
I have been rallying the call for this application to be refused based on several changes to this area since it was initially given permission. Most notably, a new housing development is now situated in the vicinity and if plans for the extension are given the go ahead, the new building will not only overlook these homes, but also cause an increase in traffic and parking issues.
In documents handed to the Council by Pegasus group on behalf of the Village hotel it says; ‘There are no changes to the layout, scale, or design of the proposed extension. It is a like for like application to what has previously been approved’
Jessica added;
The original plans that were submitted with this application are all outdated and show the area to still be a business park. It is not a true reflection of the area and it does not take into account the houses that are now situated there. All aspects of the proposal are out of date, with the transport and sustainability statement being dated from 2017 and, the flood risk assessment also needs updating.
Jessica set to action by creating a petition to back residents, with both a hard copy and an online petition, which gathered over 100 signatures. She also took the time to speak to residents on their doorsteps about the plans and it was very clear that there were a lot of questions and concerns. Jessica does not believe these plans should be considered for approval, especially given the fact that all the information is outdated and she is calling for this application to be refused.
